Exodus Boxing Stables Director Anthony Mwamba has strongly refuted reports that boxer Esther Phiri has quit boxing.
Mwamba says as Phiri’s trainer and manager, he is deeply shocked by reports from some sections of society that the boxer has hung up her gloves.
He said Phiri is still in active boxing and is currently training until her new opponent is identified following the withdrawal of her earlier challenger from South Africa.
Speaking in Lusaka yesterday, Mwamba however said Phiri’s next opponent will only be identified after next month when the new boxing calendar is drawn.
Phiri, popularly known in the boxing circles as “Killer B” has on several occasions been reported to have prematurely quit boxing.
And Mwamba said the junior boxing development project for his stable is progressing well.
Mwamba said out of the 36 junior boxers currently training with his stable, 6 boxers will be part of the Zambia Under 20 national boxing team to represent Zambia at the regional tournament in Angola later this year.
